Terrorism in the homeland -- link roundup

Update: Mary Katharine has some comments on the story.

***

Hugh talk on his show last night about the SF car-terrorist and blogged about it:

Hugh updated with the SF Chronicle article:

The SUV hit two people in front of the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco on California Street, just blocks from where the rampage ended.

Blood covered the sidewalk in front of the center's gift store entrance and 50 feet farther down the sidewalk lay a mangled bicycle. Security cameras in front of the center captured images of the incident, which happened at 1:12 p.m., said to Aaron Rosenthal, spokesman for the community center.

"As far as we can tell, they were simply pedestrians on the street at the time," he said. (Hugh's emphasis)

If this had been a Gay Community Center, for example, do you think the media would be reacting the same?

Hugh reacts to the article:

...it is simply incredible that the spokesman for the JCC is so quick to dismiss the very idea that anti-Semitic rage drove the attack.

Hugh, it should be incredible , but to most Americans, I think, it has ceased to amaze how the media distorts the truth, and paints the news in any way they want. My family, when on the rare occasions that they watch the news, will call me to verify if certain things are true, and ask me where they can read the "true side of the story" before making up their minds. Fact is, most Americans don't trusts the mainstream media anymore. Just look at their P&L.

Mary Katharine wrote this in her column on Monday
.

Does the mainstream press ever wonder why conservatives distrust them so much?

If so, they need look no further than the “fauxtography” scandals of the last couple of weeks. Conservative bloggers have been hard at work sniffing out suspected fakery and staging in the photos sent back on the newswires from the Israel/Hezbollah conflict, and the investigation got pretty smelly.

I saw Drudge link to an AP story about 10:30 last night, but I don't know what happened to that one. This morning, he is linking to an AP story filed at 7:10 this morning.

Drudge doesn't have it highlighted or bolded--I guess its old news to him. You know, a muslim targets jews, no big deal. Right!

Wizbang has the picture from KNBC-TV, and links to various articles. Pajamas Media links to Gateway Pundit’s, who is providing a large map of the attackers route here.

Numerous eyewitness reports. “Sitting there like he just had a sandwich.” One witness reports the suspect said he was a terrorist, but police deny that,

Cozy Corner gives us some perspective:

You know how this would be reported if SF were in Iraq? "

Sectarian Violence Rocks San Francisco"
"More Muslim-Jew clashes reported near San Francisco"
"Police find body, 13 casualties in San Francisco"

They would also be playing the video and showing the pictures of the victims...photoshopping them in if necessary!

Michelle Malkin has a full round up of articles, and has been tracking the story closely. Check her post out here.   One of her readers provided this info:

Reader Chris writes: "The 3500 California St hit was a 1/2 mile from the main Jewish temple, Temple Emanu-El and 41 miles from his starting point in Fremont."

The Anchoress had the same thought i had above--what if it had been a gay community?

This is becoming an appalling habit in the press and by politicians. An Islamic fundamentalist shoots Jews in a Synagogue, and it’s some sort of random incident. An Islamic fundamentalist uses his car to kill people in front of a Synagogue, and in what would appear to be a somewhat “Jewish neighborhood” and the press takes a while to cover the story (probably looking for the appropriate “frame,”) until someone in authority can be found to sing out, “ROAD RAGE”! Yeah, that’s the ticket! Road rage! Mayor Newsom sees no problem, here…a “relatively young” person, obviously confused! Yes, that’s the ticket!

Omeed Aziz Popal, the poor confused youngster, is 29 years old.

Can you imagine, if someone had (God forbid!) driven a car into 14 gay people, how quickly the press would have managed to cover the story? Can you imagine that Mayor Newsom would call it “road rage” and suggest that there really probably wasn’t a “hate crime” attached to the action?
