HT to
Boundless Line for this story.
Fox news is reporting that social networking web sites, (
Facebook,
MySpace, etc.) may be losing momentum among their audience.
The article says that young adults are becoming weary of being wired.
I liked the quote:
"True friends need to learn when to stop blogging and go across campus
to help a friend," says Iowa State journalism professor Michael Bugeja.
I'm the Online Community Manager, and my job is to encourage and help Townhall readers blog MORE, not less, but if you don't have an interesting life to blog about about, trust me--no one will read your blog. So, yes--go out and help a friend, and THEN, come back and tell us all about it.
Fox has the story of Gabe Henderson, who decided to cancel his MySpace account:
For some, it would be unthinkable — certain social suicide.
But Gabe Henderson is finding freedom in a recent decision: He
canceled his MySpace account. No longer enthralled with the world of
social networking, the 26-year-old graduate student pulled the plug
after realizing that a lot of the online friends he accumulated were
really just acquaintances.
"The superficial emptiness clouded the excitement I had once felt,"
Henderson wrote in a column in the student newspaper at Iowa State
University, where he studies history. "It seems we have lost, to some
degree, that special depth that true friendship entails."
Interesting stuff. Its my daily battle--go online to do some work, or go offline and spend more time with my wife. I think offline and time with my wife has been getting its proper share of time, but it's an ongoing struggle.
